NPS also contracted for a survey of institutions that preserve and interpret
some aspect of Maine Acadian culture to the public. The research was conducted
over a three-month period, October-December 1992. Twenty-one institutions
in Maine and New Brunswick were surveyed by telephone. Each institutional
representative was asked the same set of questions, which had been developed
in consultation with NPS staff. The questions were intended to elicit interpretive
themes, specific interpretive methods, strengths and weaknesses of interpretive
efforts, and target audiences. Other institutions in Québec and the Maritime
provinces were identified, but not formally surveyed (McDonald 1992). |
