The North Atlantic Region charged an interdisciplinary planning team to
develop--in consultation with the public--a strategy implementing the
Maine Acadian Culture Preservation Act. Acadian Culture in Maine
constitutes the team's findings to date. While it is admittedly
an incomplete portrayal of Maine Acadian culture, the report is the basis
for the next steps in NPS planning. A study of options for implementing
the Act (scheduled for release in the spring of 1994) presents the concepts
developed by the planning team for National Park Service actions to interpret
and preserve Maine Acadian culture.
The National Park Service will continue to develop, gather, compile,
store, analyze, and update information about natural and cultural resources
and regional demographic, ethnographic, and socioeconomic data relevant
to planning and implementation of the Act. The data presented in Acadian
Culture in Maine has been collected in a variety of ways.
